A SENDCOs start of the new school year

This time of year is SO busy for SENDCOs! The new arrivals to Early Years, with transfer of files from Nurseries, and baseline assessments for Speaking, Listening and EAL (English as an Additional Language) takes some time when you have up to 90 new children! Inevitably all schools will have some new teachers starting in the Autumn term, who, even if they were able to attend the transfer of SEND information at the end of the summer – will need that extra 1-1 time to discuss their new class. IEPs have to be prepared with all teachers, Intervention Programmes need to be set up, the LEA Census in early October needs information to be uploaded such as numbers of SEND categories (so the SEND register needs to be ready), numbers and language levels of EAL students (actually that is in February but good to get ahead of this!) , Children Looked After, Refugees, Armed Forces families and so on…oh and what about the SEND budget for this year? My office is groaning with files from Nurseries, reports from therapists, and my mind buzzing with ideas and plans for the year. It is the end of Summer but I am still feeling the benefit of the summer break – long may that last! This is a useful link for SENDCOs:
